The beat goes on.
I haven’t been in a writing mood for about a week. I’ve been busy with real life, and busy with other “Scipio” things like the web site and additions there.
But I have a bit of control over whether or not I’m in a writing mood, and I can get in the mood if I start editing (and if I have the time, of course).
Now, just because I’m not in a writing mood doesn’t mean I’m not writing in my head. One of the reasons I haven’t been “in the mood” lately is that I was semi-stuck at the current point (late in Nereids, Ch11). But I’ve been going over it in my head, smoothing things out, “seeing” the scene, and acting out the dialog.
Well, I fired up M$ Word today and opened Nereids, intending to “get in the mood.” I scrapped the ending to the current scene and re-wrote it. Then I kept going, writing two new scenes and working toward the chapter’s conclusion (I even worked in a good laugh or two… I hope you enjoy them).
After I added to Ch11, I went back and did a final edit on Ch3. I need to send it off to my trusty editor, to get it in the pipeline to send to the illustrator. Anyway, I finished editing Ch3 and sent it off.
Later tonight—maybe—I’ll sit down and add to Ch11. I’m about 2,000 words from where I think it will end. We’ll see how much energy I have tonight after watching the USA-Ghana match. (Unfortunately, I saw the final score on one of my news feeds—dammit!—so I don’t know how much interest I’ll have in watching the entire 90 minutes. We’ll see.)

It’s fascinating watching your writing process from the outside. A couple of months ago it would have been academic, today I sit here thinking “See, even Nick has to erase & start over!”
Thanks for letting us ’see in’ this way, Nick.
Hope you enjoyed the game, it was always going to be a tricky group to progress from, but it all adds to the squads big tournament experience.
Interesting to see how you write, hoping you can finish Nereids soon, only because i’m impatient, in a non-passive-agressive way, to hear how Paul & Trips house renovations go.
Yeeeha for Ghana, as someone lliving in good old Africa it was awesome to watch the black warriors make it to the final 16, well chuffed. On another note about footie! Can’t wait for 2010 when it comes to my home country South Africa! You all have to come visit, you will fall in love with the climate, the people and the vibe!
Thanks for the writing Nick! i’m sure you hear this more than enough how good your work is, so all I’m going to say it thanks!
I always have terrible trouble with comment-related plugins that require me to put some line in the comment loop; I can never seem to find the right spot. Can anyone tell me where I should put the php line in my comments loop? I haven not modified anything much, and I would be very grateful. Thanks!
