April Fools
I don’t have an April Fools’ story for you. Seriously. No foolin’.
First, I couldn’t think of anything clever. Second, I wasn’t really in the mood, even if I had come up with something clever. (I haven’t even decided what pic I’m going to use for the POD today. Yeah, it’s that bad.)
So I was going to write a blog post about life in general—either that, or my decision to quit writing and become a Morris Dancer—but then I had a bit of an epiphany.
I said, “Self, instead of spending your meager words-per-day quota on a blog post, why don’t you do some work on Ch12?”
Self thought that was a splendid idea, so I fired up M$ Word (actually, it was already running) and loaded Book 4. I’d left Ch12 at a good point, so I knew what was supposed to come next. Even better, it was a micro piece, so I wouldn’t have to compress a lot of plot into a few words. Better still, it was a conversation, which is scandalously easy to write (for me, at least).
So I did my usual pre-writing edit to get up to speed, and then I started pecking away. Now, I had a work avoidance moment when I decided to add something to a Nickipedia entry (it was one of those “better do it while you’re thinking about it” moments), but I managed to pull myself away from the wiki and get back to the story.
(Speaking of the wiki… If you want something to do while you’re waiting for the next chapter, lots of Nickipedia entries need help. Seriously. Susan’s entry is woefully incomplete—and I mean pitiful. Many characters from Books 2 & 3 could also use some TLC, if only a sentence or two. Pick a character from the People stubs page and add something. If you don’t feel like writing, pick a page and edit. It’s easy, and lots of people would benefit. Besides, anything that keeps me from working on Nickipedia is a good thing.)
Okay, so where was I?
Oh, yes… the story. The scene flowed, although the characters didn’t talk about everything I thought they would. Still, it’s a good conversation. It explains a bit of the past, and even sets up another story (you’ll see what I mean when you read it). I can work the remaining conversation into a later scene, which is just fine.
After this, I have one major steamy scene to write, and Ch12 should be close to done. Fortunately, all that time agonizing over Ch11 left me with time to think about Ch12, so it’s already “written” in my head—the outline, at least.
So I spent my daily words on the story, which is better than an April Fools’ joke anyway. I get to feel like I actually accomplished something productive (hey, wait! I actually did accomplish something productive), and you get one step closer to Ch12. I still need to get Ch13 well underway before I’ll be ready to post Ch12, but at least things are moving forward.
That’s the update. Like I said earlier, no foolin’.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear that things are moving along.
What Dan said. Thanks much.
Please accept our apology for the existence of the the fuckwits. It amazes me that in a world full of interesting shit, there are people who build their lives around how much they DON’T like some bit of fiction. There’s an entire community of people that have forums and blogs about how bad the “Eragon” books are.
So please ignore the fucktards. The loss is theirs.
Nick darlin’ hearing that you are writing is MUCH better than having an April Fool’s joke played on us. (I SOME how lucked out this year and it’s been a quiet day LOL) Sounds like the fuckwits have finally left you alone (for now) and that you have been able to concentrate on something that you like to do instead of dealing with the idiots that like to make life counter productive. *Makes note to crack the whip so more people will work on the Nickipedia so Nick doesn’t feel he has to*
In Love and Light
Blessed Be
Nick.
Great to hear things are moving forward. I have not started Book 4 yet although it is bookmarked. I spoiled myself with the first 3 by being able to read them straight through. I would go nuts waiting for each chapter so would rather just watch and anticipate those famous words Final to appear.
I also gather you have been having trouble with some idiots who have nothing better than to slag those who “can do the work”. It’s easy for us to say ignore them but that’s the best thing to do. Responding, especially in anger makes them winners….”ignore them” your better than that.
RickM
Which of those guys is Morris?
So… what’s a good estimate of when the next chapter will be out?
Keep up the good work and don’t let the buttheads get to you. If they don’t like what you say that’s their problem. Real friends and fans of your writing stand with you and the ones that don’t like it should figure out that you have the right to say what you want. I would tell jokes about different people from different countries or backgrounds when I was an instructor and then the government said that I couldn’t do that any more. So I changed the joke and used the term ethnic in place of the word that was used in the joke and there were people that got upset, because they were to dumb realize that their own hangup was putting the group that the joke was about into the joke. we’re all people and if we can not laugh at ourselves and others then those people have a big problem. keep up the good work.
heh my april fools joke was on me… i forgot it doh LOL …Google (ahem… Virgle = virgin atlantic google) had a good one i heard about they were offering free flights to Mars to the winner of a youtube contest X.x…
now the question is are you going to write an april fools joke into the story….?
Glad to hear you put April Fools Day to good use with some more work on Chapter 12. Besides, I don’t know how you could top the gags from the previous two years.
Awesome Nick. Can’t wait to read it. The suspense is killing me.
Nick, this is a GOOD news. May all the gods of the olympus bless you and you MS Word.
By the way I got curious and looked “Morris dance” on Wikipedia.
What’s the fuss? They are faggots! Best of luck to you
well…. looks to me like the principal player is on the re-bound.

Please, your comment is pathetic. Nick’s rant is one about the fuckwits who keep going on about his decision to take the piss out of one particular photo and not the Morris Dancers. They are not faggots you stupid homophobic close minded fool, they are simply keeping alive an old English Tradition.
Alan
I’m not homophobic, I don’t give a damn. I just wonder how come there is more and more of it granted that, technically, they shouldn’t be capable of reproducing. For the picture, OK have it your way, they aren’t they only look like. About your closing line I’m afraid you call “English Tradition” what is instead a hereditary disease.
Sesto Rino
You ARE homophobic you sad little man.
If you say so. And I that saw myself as a puzzled darwinian. Just your tough luck.
Since when did homosexuality become genetic?
Thanks for the update Nick. Good luck.
I have been Morris Dancing here in the US for 37 years. Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it. An afternoon of Morris Dancing is a better workout than running 5 miles. There are all kinds of people in the world, there are all kinds of people in Morris Dancing.
Morris Dancing in some form has been around since long before Shakespeare (Nine man’s morris?). And research about folk dancing (which is what morris is) has shown that the Basques in Spain have folk dancing which has common roots with Morris. Which would make the origins of Morris Dancing over 1000 years old.
Have any of you read Warren Kelleher’s comments on being accused of being gay just because he ice skates in Dance of a Lifetime by Frank Downey. Its on asstr, and I believe SOL as well. He was anally raped by a bunce of gay bashing religous zealots, just because he was a figure skater who did ice dancing.
The world would be in infinitely better place with a little more tolerance, compassion, and acceptance of others for who they are.
Lose your hangups man; what is it to you if a few guys are sexually oriented towards men, or a few women towards other women? I know I am hetero, I have tried male-male sex a couple of times, and I know it’s not for me, and if that’s what someone else is into, FINE. It doesn’t take anything away from me, or threaten who I am.
Nick,
Thanks for the update, Thanks for writing. Don’t worry about when the next Chapter gets published. I would much rather you are totally satisfied with what you have written than seeing it sooner. Maybe you should take that guy up on his offer of a vacation in the Carribean, but leave your writing at home.
Keep up the good work.
And by the way, Morris Dancing is a pagan fertility ritual, along with the May Pole, done in the spring to bring bounteous crops, healthy and abundant lambs, and healthy and abundant children.
I guess that pretty much settles it… fertility ritual meant to bring healthy and abundant children = NOT. GAY.
Really, Sesto, get a clue before you criticize things you obviously know nothing about.
so… we’re still arguing about morris dancers then?
….
ok.
Raoul, Alan and you all other Morris teachers, why the hell did I allow myself to be dragged in this mess? No, I don’t no anything about Morris dancers; I don’t want to, I don’t care. And you don’t know either. If you did you wouldn’t rant about fertility rituals. That’s baloneys.
I don’t know anything also either about the Elysian mysteries, the Pascua giants or the Lock Ness Monster either. Nor do I care. I saw I a picture of silly masquerading grown up men, I went to check what it was about on wikipedia (did you? obviously not; else you wouldn’t be nightmaring of abundant children) and I got dragged into this squabble.
End of it, irrelevant. Go fucking dancing where you like, just let me know so that I can scamper somewhere else. End of it By, by
LOL wow… im pretending i didn’t read that ..
oh thanks for the new chapter and an update. its good to know your still at it. I loved the chapter.
What I find so laughable about you Sesto is you feel so threatened by a bunch of people having a dance, something that has been going on for as long as man has been capable of making music.
If you’d care to read a little more carefully, I haven’t ranted on about Morris Dancing as such, just your sad little homophobic view point, which I think the others have picked up on too.
Maybe you should endevour to enlighten yourself about the Elysian Tales, Pascua Giants and the Loch Ness Monster, your closed, bigoted little mind could certainly do with some expanding.
So feel free to ’scamper’ off as you so quaintly put it, preferably down the nearest hole, never to emerge. The world can do without little individuals such as yourself.
I read and hear this crap about what is supposedly homophobic, narrow and bigoted. What strikes me so profoundly is those who are accusing others of being bigoted and narrow are just a guilty of the same things. They have no tolerance of those who do not believe and live as they do. Those who may voice any kind of objection are pegged as being the very thing they are themselves, bigots and incredibly intolerant. Have you ever considered those who believe differently than you may have a very logical reason? Are you willing to actually listen and find out why someone believes the way they do? I bet you are not. You have already made your mind up and are closed to anything other than your own point of view. That is why you bring out the name calling instead of actually having a conversation on the issue. If we don’t start actually listening to opposing views and try to understand, we as a society are headed for total anarchy. This goes for both the left and right. Do you really want to destroy what we have fought so hard to accomplish being a free people?
Rich, whoever you are, thanks. It is good to hear a friendly voice coming out of nowhere. Now, what about waiting for chapter 12?
I dunno much about April Fool’s Day, but I will say that Chapter 11 is the best bit of writing you’ve done in a while there Scipio. Keep it up. Relax, take your time and for God’s sake enjoy it!

See why they drove me bonkers?

@ Rich
Heartily agree Rich, people have fought for and died for the rights you are talking about, and I think we could have an excellent debate about what is right and acceptable to debate, but a line has to be drawn somewhere about what is and isn’t acceptable.
A classic example is the historian David Irving who denies the Holocaust, knowing as accepted historical fact the Holocaust did happen are we to allow his poison to infect another generation?
Just as true is to deny homosexuality, it crosses the boundary of acceptable debate, in my opinion. But unlike some I willing to engage in a discussion if you think I’m wrong, and back it up with rational argument.

if anyone cares. not sure what the fuss is , I guess some people are just too bored to do anything but bug people. as for me I will patiently wait for stories from nick and several other writers. Gentle has some new stories as does Strickland. Let’s read more, especially if all we write is hurtful speech.
